Calligraphy
Calligraphy is a discipline of attention. The process of creating my calligraphy ambigrams is a deeply meditative and transformative journey, allowing me to tap into my inner creativity and explore my intuition and self-expression. It begins with a single word or phrase, carefully chosen for its meaning and significance. As I set out to write it in calligraphy, I embark on a journey of discovery, an exploration of both the outer world of form and the inner landscape of consciousness.
My calligraphy work runs across Arabic, Amharic, Tibetan, Chinese, and Urdu scripts, carrying the writing of poems, prayers, and proverbs from the cultures that produced them. Some compositions are ambigrams, where the same form can be read from more than one orientation. Some are abstract. Some carry text that can be read directly.
The work below is presented as standalone pieces. The calligraphy you see behind the figures in The Tao of I lives there too, woven into the architecture of each portrait.
